Use the Grocery Store to Build Your Bankroll

When it comes to saving money, doing it in little chunks over an extended period of time is typically the easiest way to go about it. Some banks use a change saving deposit scheme to help people bulk up their savings. You may be like me and have planned transfers to build the nest egg. But what about for vacation or, more specifically, your Vegas gambling budget? Even a modest bankroll needs time to build up. Here’s a little trick I use to painlessly and consistently add some cash to my gaming envelopes:

I use my rewards credit card for most purchases. I simply pay it off each week to avoid interest charges. However, whenever I go to the grocery store, which happens about twice a week, I use my debit card. I’ll typically save a few dollars here and there on my purchases thanks to my customer card. So, what I’ll do is make sure that I withdraw some cash using the cash back option whenever I check out. Usually, it’s $5 or $10, nothing major. Most of us aren’t really impacted by an extra $5 or so.

Over time, this cash reserve can build into a decent bankroll. Saving $10 a week for 25 weeks equates to, well, I’m not a math guy, but somewhere in the $235 – $267 range. For low rollers, this may be two days worth of a gambling budget you built up without breaking a sweat. This strategy can be used at any store you frequent that has a cash back option.

Obviously, you can use this plan for any type of saving, but things are always more fun and motivating when thinking about Vegas. Right? Have any tips of your own? I’m always looking for creative ideas!
