Most Vegas travelers have had at least one night of complete debauchery that concludes with regrettable aches the following day. Ok, there is no real “cure” per se. However, there are certain steps you can certainly take to alleviate your hangover blues:
1. The simple formula is water + time.
The more water the better. Seriously, you should be drinking quite a bit of it throughout the night. Ideally, it would be one to one, water per libation. But, if you’re concerned about your incredibly small bladder like I am, you should at least swig a full glass right before bed. Yes, it means plenty of early morning wake ups to use the bathroom, but I’d take that over the awful head pounding any day.
2. Stick to Ibuprofen instead of Tylenol.
This has to deal with where the pills are processed. While there may not be any major, deleterious effects, your liver is already working overtime, you don’t want to add Tylenol to the mix.
3. Pick what works for you.
Anything besides water and time is only going to have a marginal, if any effect on your “healing”. If you like Gatorade, drink it. If your go to is coffee, go for it. They may not provide any major, scientific benefits when it comes to hangovers, but we’re creatures of comfort.
4. You can always call a doctor.
And you should, if you or someone else seems to have a serious problem. But there are also doctors available to take away your nausea and headache with powerful, prescription remedies. Some will even travel to your hotel room, for a price though.
Fanboy tip- if you’re going to have a night in which you decide to “go all in”, don’t make it your final evening in town. The travel process is crappy enough, you don’t want to do it hungover. Instead, make your last day and night one of relaxation. Visit the spa, hang out pool side, or relax at the tables so you’re rested when you have to return to the real world.
* I’m obviously not a doctor. Always listen to your health care provider when it comes to your health. These are just some friendly tips we’ve picked up over the years. Be safe, be smart, and have fun out there.
