Listeners Tim, Josh, and I, low rollers and NFL betting amateurs, wanted a fun way to practice our sports betting. We have a $500 bankroll starting in week 2 of the NFL season. Our goal is to make it last as long as possible. As with any form of gambling, practice is key to money management. We figured this would be a fun way to do some public training. If you’d like to join in the fun, shoot me an email. For pro advice, head over to friend of VFB, The Vegas Parlay.
Here are our picks. We used the Android and ios app The Score for lines:
Week 2
Tim
Cincy -3 Win! + $45
I’m a fan on the Bengals at home. Andy Dalton (the QB) has a terrific record at home for 1pm games. AND San Diego traveling from the west coast to the eastern time zone makes this my pick of the week.
STL -3 Loss -$50
I’m picking this game and it very well may be a trap, but last week StL looked terrific winning against Sea. In week 2, they’re playing a terrible Washington team, although Washington is at home. But this one has me a bit leery. For some reason, my Spidey-sense is tingling.
Tenn -2 Win! + $45
I’m picking this solely on the fact that Johnny Football is starting for Cleveland. I have zero confidence in him as the leader of the Browns, even if they’re playing their home opener. Tennessee wins by 10+
ARZ -2 Win! + $45
Arizona doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s radar as a team that can contend deep into the playoffs. I disagree. I like their D and with Carson Palmer at the helm, the Cardinals offense is at least above average. Gimme the Cards to win over a bad Bears team.
$50 for each pick

Det +2 ($22) Loss -$22
Perhaps I’m being a homer, but the Vikings showed very little in week 1. They have great offensive threats, but can’t seem to get it together. I like a determined Lions squad getting points, despite being on the road.
Tenn/Cle Over 41 ($22) Win! + $20
This may be a fool’s pick. Hitting the over only requires Manziel to perform slightly better and Mariota half as good as their respective week 1 performances.
Washington +3 ($22) Win! +$20
A few teams getting points at home this week, so I felt I had to pick one. My beloved Bears instill no confidence playing AZ and there’s no way I’ll lay any money on the Jags. So, questionable moniker aside, I’ll choose Washington against a tough Rams team.

Tampa Bay +10 ($22) Win! +$20
LISTEN! Are we even sure New Orleans is good? I understand that they are inside at home, but 10 points is like, a LOT of points. It’s like a TD and a FG worth of points. Or a 2 FG’s and two safeties, if things get weird. If New Orleans gets up early, as most expect, I see them running the ball against this team. I also like the Tampa Offense to bounce back and have a much stronger showing in week 2.
Houston/Carolina OVER 40.5 ($22) Win! +$20
Anytime the Over/Under is set at 42 or under, I’m going to look around. This week has FIVE matchups that fit this criteria. Adam already mentioned the Tenn/Cle game, so I wanted to go a different direction and settled with these knuckleheads. Watching Carolina in Week 1, I felt like Desi Arnaz and the Panthers were Lucille Ball. That’s a terrible dated reference basically saying, ”THEY GOT A LOT OF ESPLAINING TO DO!!!”. Give Greg Olsen the ball. If they can do that, I see this one going my way. Now that I’m thinking about it…
Carolina -3 ($22) Win! +$20
I’m in, let’s do this. You know, 60% of the time I bet on the Panthers, it works every time.
This is obviously for entertainment purposes only. Seriously, mirroring anything I do is highly questionable. What are your picks/thoughts?
